If you fly in India and are weighing LogTen, Wingman or another logbook app, judge them on five things: DGCA night and P1(U/S) credit, the CA-39 and eGCA, FDTL under CAR 7-J-III, roster import, and whether your data can leave. Pilotbook, an iPhone logbook built to DGCA rules and coming soon to the App Store, is compared here with LogTen and Wingman using each one's own pages, read on 21 October 2026.
What a logbook for Indian pilots has to get right
Most logbook apps were built for FAA or EASA pilots. These are the DGCA details to test before you move years of flying into one.
- Night is DGCA night. Indian rules count night from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise. EASA and the FAA use civil twilight, so the same flight can give two different night figures.
- P1(U/S) stays separate. The DGCA's CA-39 form has its own P1(U/S) columns, and its note says to "write P1 U/s experience separately and do not include in Co-pilot column".
- CA-39 periods. The form covers the preceding 5 years, 6 months, 12 months or 18 months, depending on the licence schedule, and is countersigned by whoever may sign your logbook under Rule 67A.
- eGCA is the record. For airline pilots, DGCA's Operations Circular 03 of 2024 makes the operator push each flight into your eGCA e-logbook within seven days, for you to certify within twenty-one. Your own app is then a cross-check, so it should total the same way.
- FDTL is the 2024 CAR. CAR 7-J-III Revision 2 caps flight time over 7, 14, 28, 90 and 365 days and requires at least 12 hours of rest before a flight duty. An app with "custom" limits is only as right as the numbers you type in.
- Your data can leave. Check that the export holds every flight in a format another app can read.
LogTen
LogTen's pricing page offers LogTen free "for your first 50 hours logged". After that, LogTen Basic is $79.99 a year, and LogTen Pro is $129.99 a year. Pro adds LogTen for Mac and "Schedule Importing (for over 100 Airlines)". Prices are in US dollars. LogTen runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, and says it helps import an existing logbook for free. Its home page promises duty and rest limits for "FAR117, EASA and regulations worldwide"; its help centre has limit groups for EASA, several FAA parts and other regulators, and we found none for DGCA FDTL.
For India, LogTen's help centre explains how to fill eGCA's bulk upload file from an "India DGCA" LogTen report. The same article warns that "eGCA requires all flying in 2021 to be entered directly into their portal", that the bulk file "can only be used for flying in 2020 or earlier", and that its formulas don't work in Excel for Mac or Apple Numbers. Its spreadsheet export is a tab-separated file that it calls "NOT A COMPLETE BACKUP", because signatures, images and some aircraft and people details stay behind.
Wingman
Wingman is made by Wingman Avtech Pvt Ltd and runs on iOS, Android and the web. Its product page lists roster import from AIMS eCrew, ARMS, CAE, CESAR and NavBlue, and "DGCA compliant logging and formats" among other regulators. It also lists PDF, CSV and Excel exports and "custom rules for auto recency and FTL limits tracking": you build the FTL limits yourself. Its help centre describes a CA-39 report by months, aircraft or years, and uploading flights to eGCA from the app after you sign in with your eGCA ID, password and an OTP.
Its pricing page has a free Basic plan "for student pilots and enthusiasts" that logs up to 250 hours. Pro is $4.99 a month billed annually, with no limit on hours and automatic roster import; the product page's FAQ puts it at ₹4,499 a year in India. Its roster app, AirRoster, is a separate product, with Pro at $4 a month or $29 a year. Moving in, Wingman says its team handles imports from other apps "manually", and its downloads page has an Excel template for sending your previous flying.
Pilotbook
Pilotbook is an iPhone app (iOS 26) from Tera Labs, built in India to DGCA rules. What it does with the checks above:
- Night: it checks every block minute against DGCA night at the aircraft's position, along the route. A take-off or landing is credited as night when it happens in DGCA night at that airport, if you were pilot flying.
- Credit: it works out P1, P2, P1(U/S), dual or instructor time for each sector, and never changes a number you typed back.
- Printing and Rule 67A: it prints DGCA airline and training layouts, with page totals checked first, and handles Rule 67A monthly certification and quarterly countersignature on your iPhone. Monthly certification is free.
- CA-39 and eGCA: it totals your logbook by year, month and aircraft for a CA-39, and runs an eGCA pre-check of your licence requirements. Its CA-39 columns aren't yet checked against the official form, so copy the figures into the DGCA form yourself and keep P1(U/S) separate.
- FDTL: it adds up the flight time you log over rolling 7, 28 and 365 days against DGCA limits. DGCA is the only duty scheme it checks; EASA and FAA duty limits aren't in the app.
- Roster: import an .ics file, read your iPhone calendar or paste roster text. It never asks for your airline login.
- Moving in and out: CSV import has a preset for LogTen's tab-delimited export and a column mapper for any other file. Wingman has no preset, so save its Excel export as CSV and map the columns. Pilotbook compares totals before you import, and any import can be undone. Export CSV, JSON or PDF whenever you like.
- Privacy and price: no account, no ads, no tracking. Your logbook stays on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. It is free to download, and Pilotbook Pro is an in-app upgrade that pilots under 250 hours get free.
What it doesn't do: there is no Android or web version, and it isn't on the App Store yet.
How to choose
If you need Android or a web app, or want your crew portal pulled in automatically, Wingman covers that, according to its own pages. If you want a Mac app and airline schedule import, LogTen Pro lists both. If you want DGCA night, P1(U/S) and Rule 67A handled on your iPhone with no account, look at Pilotbook, from Tera Labs. Whichever you pick, export your logbook once a month and keep the file.
Questions people ask
Is there a free pilot logbook app for DGCA pilots?
Wingman's Basic plan is free up to 250 hours. LogTen is free for your first 50 hours. Pilotbook is free to download, and pilots under 250 hours get Pilotbook Pro free.
Can LogTen upload to eGCA?
LogTen's help centre shows how to fill eGCA's bulk upload file from a LogTen report. It also says that file only accepts flying from 2020 or earlier.
How do I move my logbook from Wingman to another app?
Wingman lists CSV and Excel exports. Export your flights, save them as CSV, and import them with the new app's column mapper. Then compare the totals before you delete anything.
Do I still need a personal logbook if my airline uses the eGCA e-logbook?
Under Operations Circular 03 of 2024 your airline fills the e-logbook, but you must certify each entry within 21 days and keep the signed quarterly PDF for 5 years. A personal logbook lets you check those entries.
